My Story

I believe that art can be a bridge,
connecting us to ourselves and to one another.

Hello: I am Nicole Burmeister the artist behind nicoleinbold.

As a soft pastel artist, I find endless inspiration in the serene beauty of prairies and marshes. These landscapes are deeply personal, connected to some of my happiest memories—like getting engaged on the Konza Prairie or family vacations in the OBX. My art is more than just a visual experience; it's an invitation for you to step into a world of tranquility and connection.

I’m happily married to my best friend, and together we embarked on the joyful adventure of secular homeschooling our daughter. When I’m not actively creating, you can find me playing board games, exploring the great outdoors, or embracing the spontaneity of our family life.

My journey with art hasn't always been smooth. Growing up in a critical environment, I often felt that creativity was a battlefield rather than a sanctuary. Comparisons and competitiveness, especially by my mother, stifled my ability to express myself. It wasn’t until I distanced myself from my immediate family three years ago that I started to really embrace my own artistic path with a new medium - soft pastels.

I feel immense freedom while creating now. Soft pastels have become a way to reconnect with my inner child and create without the weight of judgment. With this medium, every stroke becomes an opportunity for exploration, play, and emotional expression. The tactile experience of working with pastels is as fulfilling as the finished piece itself—a rare balance that has transformed the way I approach my work. Not to mention the simple joy of washing my hands after a session - it’s like a colorful confetti party that reminds me of the beautiful, messy process of creation.

Driven by the values of freedom, honesty, compassion, mindfulness, and curiosity, I aim to keep evolving as an artist and expanding my reach. Art is deeply intertwined with my passion for cultivating safe spaces around creativity and mindfulness. These practices are vital to my mental health and enrich my artistic growth. On this journey, I embrace the idea that art is not just a product but a process—one that can transform lives and foster real connections.

If you’re ready to bring a bit of peace into your home, I’d love for you to explore my shop. Each painting is a little window into a world of calm, connection, and beauty—just waiting for you to step through.
