Durrance Party of 4 | Lifestyle Newborn | Leesburg, Va

This family! There is so much to say, but I'm not the best with doting words. The Durrance's are the sweetest people you will meet. With compassion and wit, style and love, they are some of the most patient and giving people I know. You may remember their birth story, where Miss A graced us with her presence! Here they are again, cuddling, protecting, and smiling through their early days of adjustment as a family of 4. How sweet are her nursery details and daddy cuddles!?! Oh, and older brother R peaking at his new sister, my heart melts!

Any advice for a new family of 4?

Aggarwal Party of 4 | Leesburg, Va | Lifestyle Newborn

Sometimes you make the best connections when you put yourself out into the world. This family seriously rocks. The amount of love, patience and grace each member has is inspiring. I love how sweet both mom and dad are with their children. From their language to how they use there voices to the calm way they move about their house. It makes my heart so happy to see this in real life. They are a wonderful example of how I want to be with my daughter and husband.

I'm the type of person that thoroughly likes to continue learning and changing with each season of life. What make this journey even better, is meeting people who make me think about how I can be better for myself, my family, and the world. The A family gives as much as they take from the world! Dad is an amazing gardener who has even built a pond in their back yard, seriously beautiful. Their home is as open and warm as their hearts, which is filled with so much light.

Mom, I'm not sure I have adequate words for everything I have learned from talking to and observing her, that sounds creepy, but I've been behind the lens a lot with her over the past couple of months. We met while advocating for our rights to nurse our children when and where ever we want. We are both strong advocates of normalizing breastfeeding and she has such a loving husband by her side for support as well. Not only did she nurse her first throughout her pregnancy, but she was so excited to share the experience with both of her daughters. And let me tell you, little L was ready with pointers and guidance on how best to latch and get comfortable.

It was a true joy to watch a mom, and dad, settle into bringing a new life into their home.

Moments in Motherhood Recap2 | Meet Nicole Series

My final thoughts, life lessons, and images from my time at the Mae BurkeMoments in Motherhood workshop. True learning and growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zone.

This workshop pushed me mentally, physically, and technically in my personal and creative life. For those of you who don’t know, I’m not a hugger and mass transportation alone gives me great anxiety (especially if I haven’t been to the desired location before). For this experience, I rode on the metro BY MYSELF and arrived on time and unscathed; albeit slightly sweaty. I walked into a house full of my peers; I was super nervous, but I spoke up, hugged a few people, asked questions, and learned a few unexpected tid-bits.

  1. No matter our experience level in life we are all unsure, have anxiety, and want reassurance. Just because something worked for one person does not mean it will work for another. Timing, personality, market, and audience readiness are all key factors. With that said, people still want you to succeed. I want to succeed AND I want others to succeed. Follow your heart and do what feels good!
  2. Don’t be afraid of your calling. If you want to share something that moves you, chances are you will inspire someone else as well. Seriously, be unapologetically you! I’m working on this one, and it is a daily challenge. It can be hard at times to be an artist, a mom, and/or a person. So much judgement is constantly thrown around. Please be kind to others!
  3. Don’t be afraid to step back as much as you get close. I love to fill the frame with my subjects, but looking at the big picture can capture just as much and draw your eye into the emotion of your story. Also, don’t be afraid to get close to your calling. Find out who you are and really dissect your heart. Find your why and sit in it. With the information you find, take a step back to find your safe place, and your happy balance in order to be the best you for you and those around you (a reoccurring theme).

I will leave you with images from our workshop session to include a cute out-take and behind the scenes snapshot.

"the love is all mine"

With each family I photograph, observe and create art for, I learn more about myself. I narrow my vision of who I want to be for my little and husband. This family is no different. Mom and Dad worked together like a dream making sure each was comfortable all while taking care of their fresh baby. Miss Kyla has truly been graced with a patient and light hearted family spanning continents full of love and wonder to teach her all about life. I am excited to see this family grow together and take on new adventures!

I love meeting new littles and their parents. So much newness, exhaustion, wonder and love! I sincerely enjoy hearing about mom and dad's birth experience and how everyone is adjusting. Miss Lilian is so precious, keeping one eye open for the majority of our session. Could she be any cuter? Her big fur-brother Murphy kept a close watch throughout my stay and was so calm around baby.
